The owl and the pussycat...

Well, truth be told, I have had something of a lazy week. With the exception of a couple of lavender bags, it has been sewing - nil point! I was debating with myself whether to even post photos of the lavender bags, but thought I should:

On Bank Holiday Monday Mark and I went to the Tree Festival at Westonbirt Arboretum. It was a bit rainy and very muddy, but we had a good time. There were some very brave kids having a go at falconry (or owlry?):

Lots of food stalls (although the carvery roll was a wee bit disappointing), local artists - mainly in wood - and even an old fashioned carousel.

Some sculptors were creating amazing pieces, using chain saws:

It was a good day, and even with lots of people there for the tree festival, it was easy to avoid people when wandering around the arboretum. I'm not a very sociable person really, and enjoy a little solitude.

Last week we took our two cats for their annual jabs and check-up. Both look well, but Max (the long-haired one) had some inflammation along his gums and needed a dental; luckily just a scale and polish without any tooth extractions. This still involved a general anaesthetic. He was only kept at the vet during the day, so was quite woozy when he came home. Being an odd sort of a cat, he usually likes to sleep in the bath, but he was sitting on the bathroom floor, not relaxing or sleeping. I wondered if he needed something comforting (as he wasn't interested in sleeping on a bed...either his or ours), so I put down a bath mat, warm from the airing cupboard. It did the trick and he curled up and went to sleep. I think his brother knew something wasn't quite right and Rio snuggled up with Max. The vet said that, even with brothers from the same litter like Max and Rio, cats are often quite argumentative and even aggressive, so I think we are lucky our cats are such good friends.

It has been so nice to have some lazy time at home this week. I have really enjoyed being able just to sit in the garden and read...as has Max!

this photo makes me yawn too - every time I look at it!

  1. How exciting to be so close to an owl! Although I am not sure whether I would be brave enough to hold one...

Love the picture of Max and Rio, they are so cute together.

    1. I think I would have been nervous about the larger birds, but I would have liked to have been allowed to hold an owl.
